The Greatest Show on Earth

Many religious people say, quite sincerely, that without religion their lives would be devoid of meaning. Where, they ask, can nonbelievers find meaning and joy in a godless universe? They perceive such a universe as cold, impersonal and existential. Fair comment. Equally sincerely, I can say that without science my life would be meaningless. With no apologies for using superlatives, I can say that scientific truth is hitherto unimaginable and magnificent. Observing the natural world with an enquiring mind is without question the ‘greatest show on earth’
